Flaws
This article makes me very happy:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/04/magazine/04coach.html

It is about a college football coach who appears to have, for lack of a better word, hacked the game.

I don't like football all that much. I don't really watch sports at all, but this stuff makes me grin ear to ear. I am in love with the idea that the world is full of things that hide beneath their surfaces new and exciting solutions that are totally unlike the accepted plan. I love cleverness and ingenuity and I love that there's still so much left to figure out.

(I found this on the Freakonomics Blog by the way)

What I sent to Roger Ebert

Dear Mr Ebert,

First let me thank you for jumpstarting a discussion about the relative artistic and critical merit of videogames as compared to film and books. It's not a new discussion but the attention that you devoted to it mixed with your star power has pushed it into the limelight, which can't help but have positive consequences for videogames, I think.

I do want to take issue with one aspect of your opinon )

From the department of things that don't quite cut it:
http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/12/02/fire-guy20051202.html

The man blamed for one of the most destructive wildfires in Canadian history says he feels intense guilt for the damage it did.

"There's no other way to feel. People lost their jobs, they lost their homes, their land was all burnt up," Mike Barre told CBC News.
Ruins of the Tolko sawmill

Barre was fined $3,000 on Nov. 29 for carelessly discarding a cigarette that started the McLure-Barriere forest fire in southwestern British Columbia in August 2003.

The fire obliterated 73 homes in Barriere and Louis Creek, north of Kamloops, and destroyed a sawmill, the region's biggest employer.

Also, does anyone else want to marry the person who names the HTML files for CBC stories? They are from time to time hilarious, i.e. "fire-guy" for this one or my personal favourite so far "harper-smaesex".

This week: It is the 50 year anniversary of something! Do you know what it is?

Next week: Hella on and going to be hella good, what with all that people and whatnot who are going to come. You should come as well.

Update: Elephants making paintings. I am not making this up.

http://www.eviltree.de/zoomquilt/zoom.htm This is proof that everything is, ultimately, good.

Also, I would now like to do the thing that I have been promising myself that I would do once I had the financial resources: I have all these negatives and I would like to pay someone (presumably a company of some kind) to take all of the negatives and give me CDs or something of digital scans. Does anyone have any good leads on where to go to do this? There are like 50 or more rolls of developed negatives.

Snowmit says:
I have an overactive hypothetical imagination.

It is good to ground it out sometimes.

Too many people are talking about the stats. Not enough people are talking about the horsies. It is for this reason that I have created a new post, devoted entirely to linking to said horsies.
